At Federal (calle Parlament, 39) you can have a very nice brunch and read some magazine (like the New Yorker) or use the free wi-fi! Great on Sundays (even if you'll have to wait some time), and greater during the week, when there's less people and they offer a mouth-watering menu :)

Por fin ha llegado la Primavera! Esa preciosa estación en la que el Sol nos empieza a calentar los huesos, y aún es posible gozar de todo lo que Barcelona y Cataluña ofrecen sin tropezarse en multitudes de turistas con sandalias y calcetines blancos.

Para celebrar su llegada, aquí en TheBCNxp hemos pensado ofrecer, cada semana, alguna que otra idea para animarse a dar una vuelta y descubrir los muchos tesoros de las afueras de la ciutat comtal.

Empezamos hoy por Sant Martí d'Empúries, un pequeñísimo pueblecito medieval en los alrededores de L'Escala, en el Empordanet. Se encuentra a menos de dos horas en coche de BCN, y aquí encontráis el mapa!

Como hace ya un mes o algo es temporada de Calçots, vale la pena ir a la hora de la comida y quedarse en uno de los varios restaurantes que se asoman a la encantadora plaza mayor. Nosotros hace ya dos años que vamos a la Mesón del Conde, un restaurante de cuina típica de l'Empordá que tiene una bonita terraza! A parte de los Calçots comimos calamares a la plancha y unos tallarines con gambas y setas. Si no sabeis que son los Calçots y porqué se comen con babera (foto) pinchad aquí y disfrutad de la explicación de la web "Directo al Paladar"!

Después de comer, podréis disfrutar de un paseo por las antiguas y estrechas calles del pueblo, que tienen mucho encanto; hay una iglesia que se parece a una fortaleza, un mirador con vistas a la playa (primera foto) y mucho más! Simplemente ideal para un domingo al aire libre :)

Por fin, conseguimos dos plazas en la barra del restaurante que es universalmente reconocido como el mejor japonés en Barcelona! Se llama Koy Shunka, acaba de conseguir su primera estrella Michelín y su chef, Hideki Matsuhisa, aparece en el nuevo anuncio de la cerveza Estrella Damm, justo como hizo el mítico Ferran Adriá. Es decir, el restaurante está realmente muy lanzado!
Si queréis ir, reservad en la barra, desde donde podréis ver el increíble trabajo de los cocineros japoneses, que limpian, cocinan y sirven pescado (y mas) sin parar ni un momento!
En este post y en los siguientes, podréis seguirnos en un pequeño resume por imágenes de lo que vimos y comimos...a ver si os animáis a probar la verdadera cocina japonesa en BCN!

Finally, we were able to get two seats at the famous Koy Shunka, universally recognized as the best japanese restaurant in BCN! It just got his 1st Michelin Star, and its chef Hideki Matsuhisa appears in the new Estrella Damm commercial, just like the great Ferran Adriá did! And this can only mean Koy Shunka is the-place-to-go :)
When you call, make sure you book a place at the bar, from which you will be able to see the incredible work of the cooks, that clean, prepare and serve fish without stopping!

La entrada es muy elegante, y ya se puede ver la carta, muy larga y variada, y los menús de degustación!
The entrance is very elegant, and you can already read the many proposals on the menu!

Los cocineros trabajan sin pausas, preparando los increíbles platos que estamos a punto de degustar :)

The cooks work incessantly, preparing the incredible dishes we are about to taste :)

De "aperitivo" nos sirven un dashi (caldo de atún seco). El agua hirviendo sube hasta arriba, donde se llena del sabor del atún y se transforma en dashi! Vamos, que es como una cafetera pero con atún!
As a starter, we are offered a dashi (dry tuna broth). The boiling water rises to the upper part of the pot, where it takes the tuna taste and turns into dashi! Like a coffeepot..but with tuna! 

Junto al dashi (y a una buena jarra de sake), llegan estas delicias, entre las cuales edamame, salsitas, y otras cosas crujientes que estaban buenísimas... aunque ahora no me acuerdo de que se tratara!
The dashi comes with these nice starters; edamame, and some amazing crispy stuff that I cannot remember ;)

Después, es la hora de la Mariscada Koy Shunka! Pulpitos, almejas, mejillones, percebes (que nos ENCANTAN)... todo crudo (o casi) y delicioso!
After that, the time for a Mariscada Koy Shunka has come! Baby octopus, clams, and other shellfish. Raw and delicious.

Y tu... ¿cómo lees?

La pregunta no es nada sencilla, ya que hoy en día tenemos muchas opciones para disfrutar de un buen libro: el de papel de toda la vida, por ejemplo, que quizás aún sea la mejor opción para muchos. Luego hay la tinta electrónica de los muchos e-book a la venta, que ofrece una sensación muy parecida a la del papel de verdad, y permite llevarse cienes de libros en poco mas de 100 gramos de peso. 

Y finalmente, para los mas modernos existe la opción tablet, que a lo mejor cansa un poco la vista pero permite hacer muchas mas cosas, como jugar, trabajar (ehm..si..), ver pelis y todo eso (pff qué larga se me está haciendo esta introducción...).

Personalmente, con la ayuda de mi tablet estoy intentando reducir, poco a poco, la cantidad de papel en mi vida (intento no escribir mis listas y notas sobre papel, aunque mi pasión por las moleskine me puede!!!). Sin embargo, aún no tengo muy claro si de verdad estoy listo para dejar el querido, viejo libro tradicional.

Sea como sea, ahora en Barcelona hay una manera de leer libros de papel de una forma mas sostenible para nuestra Tierra (porqué no se genera otro papel) y para nosotros (porqué sale muy barato). En Re-Read, en la calle Rosselló (el mapa está abajo), es posible hacerse con un montón de libros de segunda mano que están en perfectas condiciones y a precios muy asequibles: 1 libro vale 3 euros, dos 5 euros, cinco 10 euros!

La librería es muy bonita, y la iniciativa muy interesante! Además, también podéis vender los libros que ya habéis leído! Sé que mucha gente (y yo) quiere quedarse con todos sus libros...pero bueno, siempre hay ocasión de deshacerse de algo...una mudanza, o algún doble! Yo, por ejemplo, tengo en casa como mínimo 2-3 copias de Reencuentro de Fred Uhlman y de Si esto es un hombre de Primo Levi (mejor será hablar de mi afición por la literatura judía en otro post jajaja)!!!

Pues nada, ahora ya sabéis que hacer para el próximo día de San Jordi!

How do you read?

This question is not as simple as it may seem, as these days we have many options to enjoy a good book: the traditional one made of paper, for example, that many people still prefer. In addition, in recent times the e-books with electronic ink have been very popular, as the reading experience they offer is really very similar to the one of printed paper, and you can take with you hundreds of books in little more than 100 g weight.

Finally, the more technologic people like a lot the tablet, which probably damages a little bit the vision when reading, but allows one to make many more things, like playing, working (ehm..yeah sure...), watch movies and series. OK. This introduction is getting longer and  longer, so better start with the post ;)

Personally, thanks to my beloved tablet I am trying to reduce (slowly) the amount of physical paper in my life (I try not to take notes or write lists on paper, even if my passion for the moleskine doesn't help me!!!). Nonetheless, still it is not so clear to me whether I am ready or not to definitely leave the dear, old traditional book behind.

Whatever you may think of this, now in BCN there's a new way to read paper books and be at the same time sustainable: for the Earth (because you don't generate more paper), and for you (because it's cheap).

At Re-Read, in calle Rosselló (map below), it is possible to buy second-hand books in perfect conditions and at a very low price: 3  euros for one book, 5 for two, and 10 for five books!

The bookshop is very nice, and the idea really interesting! Also, you may want to sell your old books to them! I know many people (including me) don't want to separate themselves from their books...but you know, sometimes it is just good to get rid of something: when you change your house, for example, or if you have some doubles! For example, I have in my home at least 2-3 copies of Reunion by Fred Uhlman, and of  If this is a man by Primo Levi (better to explain my passion for jewish literature in some other post :D)!!!

So now you know what to do, just go and help yourselves :)

Como ya sabéis, el mes pasado abrimos una cuenta Instagram. Eso nos permite compartir de inmediato todo lo que nos gusta, estemos donde estemos! Además, es una forma divertida de llegar a saber más sobre nuestra ciudad o la meta de nuestras próximas vacaciones!
Por sí os lo habéis perdido, aquí encontráis un breve resume de las fotos que hemos colgado en nuestro Instagram! Calles, edificios, restaurantes, comida, objetos...hay un poco de todo! Las fotos fueron sacadas entre BCN y Kyoto, Japón.

As you already know, last month we opened an Instagram account. This lets us share immediately everything we like, everywhere! Moreover, it's a fun way to get to know more about the city you live in or the place you will go on holiday!

Pues otra vez estamos con la lista de las canciones que mas nos gustan aquí en The Barcelona Xperience!
Como Febrero es un mes cortito y algo frío, también la playlist es algo mas cortita, pero podéis estar seguros de que escogimos las canciones con mucha atención! Los mas tiquismiquis notaran que hay una gran presencia de canciones italianas, y que la playlist ha sido inevitablemente inspirada por el festivál de Sanremo (y no, si no sabeis qué es, podeis vivir perfectamente sin saberlo, creedme!). Enjoy :)

Well, here we go again with the list of songs we loved this month! Since February is somewhat shorter and cooler than the other months, also the playlist is a little shorter than usual. Nonetheless, we selected this "soundtrack" for you with all our care! The fussiest among you will notice that the percentage of italian songs is quite high this time, and that the list was inevitably inspired by the Festival of Sanremo (and trust me, if you don't know what is it, you can live perfectly like this)! :)
